Andy is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Leta Jean (Jeanne) Matkovich, and by his three beloved daughters: Allison (Scott) Massa, Kathryn (Matt) Cook, and Melissa (Jonathan) Cisek. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Simon and Nathan Cisek; Sierra (Tyler) Gilbert, Aiden, Lukas and Owen Cook; and Amelie and Eliora Massa; —roles he cherished above all others.
He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillian (Joe) Cascamo and Billie (Drew) Noland; his nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Matthew, Elena, and Juliana Romero; Joe (Meredith) Cascamo and Anna Cascamo; Darin (Anubis), Darian and Amanda Huddleston; Eric Brent and Kellie Lee Haynes; his adopted daughter Stefanie Murray; and his dearly loved cousins, Boris (Jorgette) Krsulic, Ratka Vukosa, Darko Krsulic, and Muriel Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sime Budesa Matkovic and Dorothy Gercic.
Raised in Beach Haven, New Jersey, Andy learned early the value of commitment, teamwork, and integrity. In high school, he was a dedicated member of both the baseball and football teams and was honored with the very first Dolph Cramer Sportsmanship Award at Southern Regional High School—an early reflection of the character that would define his life.
Those same values carried him through a 45-year career with Westinghouse/Siemens Power Generation. His professional life took him from Philadelphia, PA, to Orlando, FL. After retirement, Andy settled in Crossville, TN, but his heart pulled him closer to his grandchildren. He ultimately split his time between Ocala, FL, and Aurora, IL, soaking up every moment he could with family.
Andy was a man of quiet strength, deep warmth, and unwavering devotion. He was deeply supportive of his wife’s endeavors and a constant presence in the lives of his daughters, never missing a water polo match, swim meet, band concert, or award ceremony. He lovingly referred to his children—and their children—as his “cupcakes,” and they always came first. If there was a family event, Andy was there—on time, proud, and exactly where he wanted to be.
In his downtime, Andy enjoyed sipping morning coffee with his wife, watching sports, playing games on his iPad, and making the occasional casino visit—where he never quite mastered the art of leaving while ahead. He had no patience for sushi or “pink fish” (especially salmon), but he could always be counted on to fire up the grill for a proper Sunday steak dinner.
Andy will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family and by all who had the good fortune to know him. His enveloping hugs, kind smiles, and quick wit lifted those closest to him.
The world needs more Andy’s…
