Ann W. McKinley
June 11, 1929 – January 21, 2013
Ann W. McKinley, age 83, died on January 21, 2013. She was born on June 11, 1929 in Pontiac, Michigan. Ann was in the Sacred Heart Monastery from 1963 to 1968. She came to live at Villa St. Benedict in February of 2007. Ann earned her Bachelors of Music and Masters of Music at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She also earned her PHD in musicology at the University of Michigan. In 1968 Ann taught piano, theory, music history, American music, opera, and the music of other cultures at North Central College. She traveled extensively abroad. She was active as a performer and a composer. Her major love was music education and students she taught and mentored. Ann was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Helen nee Watson McKinley. A visitation will take place Friday from 10 am until the time of service at 11 am at Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel, 1920 Maple Ave., Lisle, IL. Interment private. So sorry to learn of the passing of this great lady! Dr. McKinley was one of my earliest musical inspirations through her teaching at North Central College. We maintained a close friendship through correspondence during most of the last 40 years. RIP, dear Ann.
