I addressed my mother-in-law as Mrs Kuehn. She was always kind-hearted and generous with her time. With our (Ruth and Russell) busy work lives in Portland, Oregon, as an RN at Good Samaritan Hospital (Ruth) and as a mechanical engineering instructor at Portland Community College (Russell), Mrs Kuehn was more than happy to watch our children (Bruce, Jenny, Daniel and Lizzy), though not more than one at a time due to their age difference.
Mrs Kuehn loved to keep busy cooking healthy entrees and baking cookies of several varieties, and I was always glad to accept food. I became quite skilled at carrying substantial loads to pack in my car in addition to my kid!
For the big holiday celebrations of Easter and Thanksgiving, I always looked forward to the home-cooked multiple-course sit down meals that Mrs Kuehn prepared. These holiday meals were done correctly when the lucky recipient would save enough room for the desserts - yes multiple home baked cakes, pies, and cookies!
I will always cherish these and more memories of Mrs Kuehn, a very fine person, who also was my mother-in-law.
