Anthony W. Healy

Anthony Walter Healy, born on February 18, 1937 in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026 surrounded by family and blessed by a chaplain. Anthony (Tony) was the devoted husband of Peggy (Urann) Healy. They marked their 64th wedding anniversary in August 2026.

Tony was a loving, reliable, and dutiful father to his three children, Tom (Laura) Healy, Mary Healy, and Sheila (Kevin) Shea. He was a cherished grandfather to Eileen, Kerri, and Liam Healy, and dear brother to Marge (Healy) OConnor and Mary (Don) Wilson. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anne Healy and his sister, Mary Wilson.

His dedication to caring for his family extended to helping his parents as they aged and playing with his siblings. He was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and his three grandchildren, all of whom he adored.

As a youngster he was active in baseball, tennis and football and enjoyed playing chess and solving jigsaw puzzles. To earn spending money Tony became a golf caddy and later worked in factories during the summers. When he attended Proviso High School in Maywood, IL, he bought a Cushman scooter as his transportation to school. His fascination with motors and cars extended to buying a used Hudson convertible with automatic windows, which was a fascinating new feature that sometimes needed his engineering skills to keep operating. Tony was always the ultimate engineer – able to fix or improve things and never giving up on it.

Tony attended Marquette University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in electrical engineering in 1960. Later, he earned an MBA and developed a great interest in the stock market and financial issues. He continued his favorite activity of monitoring the ups and downs of the market on television and understood it even as he was in hospice treatment.

In 1961, Tony joined the US Army as an electronics engineer. He taught a Signals course at Fort Jackson, SC. He began his career as an electrical engineer at Motorola, where he was part of the teams that developed new communications devices. He continued creating new systems when he transitioned to working for International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT).

During his career, Tony was proudly involved in several major communications projects. One was creating SINCGARS (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System), a combat-net radio used by U.S. and allied military forces for primary tactical voice and data communications. Another was the GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) system that sends weather images to earth from space that are used for weather forecasting and storm tracking. He managed one of the teams that developed the system.

Tony made lifelong friendships with former classmates, neighbors and work colleagues and enjoyed annual reunions with classmate groups. He kept his backyard bird feeder filled and enjoyed watching the menagerie of animals that visited. Tony's Catholic faith was a guiding light throughout his life.

Visitation for Tony will be from 4-8 PM on Monday, September 28, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL 60532. Funeral to begin at 9:15 AM on Tuesday, September 29, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, proceeding to St. Joan of Arc Church, 820 Division St., Lisle, IL 60532, for a 10 AM funeral Mass. Interment will be private.
