

Briennen “BJ” Joseph Thomas, of Arizona, passed away after an extended illness. He was 43. BJ was born September 6, 1983. Briennen is survived by his husband Brandon Okrasinski; mother Lynette Thomas; brother Darrien Thomas; uncle Ed Thomas; niece Olliana Thomas; nephew Kameron Thomas; cousin Ocatvia (Ed) Cephas. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Sturkey, and grandparents Ollie Mae and Joseph Thomas.
Briennen built a successful career at Spindle, where he dedicated more than 13 years. BJ loved to travel and was often planning his next cruise before the first one had even begun. His favorite color was orange, a color that represents joy, warmth, and friendliness, all qualities that perfectly reflected who Briennen was.
BJ had a special love for turtles and dogs. His beloved Halo was always by his side until her passing, and she will be laid beside BJ as he is laid to rest.
Family meant so much to Briennen. Most recently, he was blessed with the opportunity to reconnect with 12 brothers and sisters, along with countless nieces, nephews, and many new cousins. As his family grew, so did his heart. He felt incredibly grateful to have found them and to have had the opportunity to know and love them.
Of all the roles BJ held in his life, he was most proud of the title Uncle. His greatest joys were his niece, Olliana, and nephew, Kameron. He gave his whole heart to being their uncle and never hesitated to show them his unwavering love.
BJ will be best remembered for his infectious smile, warm and accepting nature, and commitment to bringing joy and positivity to everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to love without judgment, a gift that will be deeply missed. Briennen was full of spirit and always gave the very best of himself to those he loved most. He never hesitated to show up and support those he loved in every way possible and his guidance has helped so many close to him.
Visitation will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL 60532, on Friday, October 9, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral Service will take place at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 9:56 am. Interment will be at Oakridge Glen Oaks Cemetery.
