

Charles S. Hanley, Jr. 97 of Lisle, Illinois, left us peacefully on January 28, 2025. A beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. Charles or “Chuck” will always be remembered as the most kind, loving and generous soul.
Born on February 5, 1928 in Blue Island, Illinois, he was the oldest son of Charles S. Hanley, Sr. and Beatrice (nee Corkery) and brother to the late Richard and Gertrude.Chuck grew up on the south side of Chicago. He graduated from Leo High School and Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana excelling in both track and football. Chuck then served two years in the Army during the Korean War. Chuck worked for 30 years at GATX Corporation and earned an MBA at DePaul University night school.Chuck married Mary Jumer M.D. in 1957 and was transferred to New Orleans, LA where they adopted Mary Kathleen (Kay) and Patricia Ann (Patty). Chuck was then transferred to Pittsburg, PA and adopted Charles John (Charlie). After another transfer to Birmingham, AL, he was transferred back to Illinois where the family settled in Western Springs becoming active parishioners at St John of the Cross.
Chuck retired from GATX Corporation in 1984 and joined Cole Taylor Bank in 1985 as a Senior Vice President. After Mary’s passing in 1994 he married Cora Landers whose children include Michael, Katie, Maura and Tracy moving to Hinsdale. After Cora’s passing in 2008 Chuck married Gertrude “Trudy” Hurley Murphy, M.D.in 2009 and they moved to Willowbrook and finally to Villa St. Benedict Senior Living in Lisle. Chuck was an avid golfer and belonged to Edgewood Valley Country Club for 42 years and was a 25 year member of The Forest Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida where he often went for the winter. Chuck loved to travel and was proud to say he visited all 50 states and 50 other countries.
Chuck is survived by his wife Trudy, sister Gertrude (late Oscar) Huffman, children Kay (Ken) Zilka, Patty (Tom) Heatherly, Charlie Hanley, Michael Landers, Katie (Patrick) Day, Maura (Brian) Underwood, Tracy (Tim) Farmer and 18 grandchildren. A visitation for Charles will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave, Lisle, IL 60532. An additional visitation will occur Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Villa St. Benedict, 1920 Maple Ave, Lisle, IL 60532, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM.
