Growing up in the small rural town of Rosemont, Minnesota with her parents & two siblings; Eleanor and Bern, together they lived in the center of one of three new chicken coops. This allowed them to care for the thousands of chickens they raised and tended to. Delores and her siblings coined themselves the “Chicken Coop Kids.”
Delores attended Harding High School in St. Paul, Minnesota where she met her future husband, Ernest. As a couple they shared a passion for music and dancing. Delores took special pride in matching every outfit and would even color her shoes to match her dress. They united in marriage shortly after and went on to have two children, Sharon & James.
Delores or “Del” to her peers was never afraid to “tell it like it is” and had a mighty will which could be felt in her strong handshakes. She was a very kind, friendly, and trustworthy person who made friends everywhere she went. Her sociable & charming nature naturally drew others to her.
Delores enjoyed cooking & baking and was known for her famous German potato salad and molasses cookies. Her canned jellies and tomatoes were coveted by all. She was the life of the party-always sporting earrings to match her outfit and could be found enjoying a good German beer.
Some of her favorite pastimes included crocheting & embroidery and over the years she made many beautiful Afghans. Delores was a member of The Crafters at Guardian Angel Church in Minnesota.
She had a passion for travel and went on many trips. She had a great fondness for animals. She adored her two cats, Tuffy & Muffin (Muffin was also known as the “Devil Cat” by her grandchildren).
Del enjoyed playing “Mexican Train” which Del started at The Cameo Residence, where she resided for six years. She always looked forward to getting together with the “Chat” group at 4 PM every Monday thru Friday. The group attended many summer concerts and plays at Drury Lane.
Most of all Delores loved being surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Her jubilant spirit and love lives on in our hearts and minds.
Delores is survived by her children Sharon (late Harold) Greenwood & James (Marilyn “Cookie” Hetzel) Schulz; grandchildren Carrie (Andy) Healy, George (Lisa) Strickle, Hal (Liz) Greenwood, Josh (Laurel) Schulz, and Ben (Katie Lucas) Schulz; great-grandchildren Paul (Jana) Strickle, Jessica (Jarid) Bush, Luke Greenwood, Kyle Greenwood, Isla Schulz, and Celes Schulz; great-great grandchildren Walter, Timmy, & Jake Strickle and Brayden & Taylynn Bush.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Ernest Brandt Schulz; parents Leo & Anna Ebel; sister Eleanor (Al) Tetzlaff; brother Bern (DeLoris) Ebel; second husband Robert Mistretta; and special friend Jerry Singerhouse.
