I was blessed to have known Denis since 9/1/90. My oldest was going to be starting school so I knew it was time to have them all baptized and her enrolled in Religious Formation. Since they were not babies, Fr. Roman suggested that we have a private baptism and asked me to call Deacon Denis. I will never forget how Denis made that day so special for my family😘 Well, I started working at SJA in August of 1998 and reconnected with Denis. I truly enjoyed his visits and boy did he spoil us with his culinary delights! He also brought us little gifts from his trips, gifts on St. Nicholas day, and flowers on Valentines Day! He took me over to Devonshire, where he used to give out Communion, and introduced me to a lady that I talked to on the phone but never met! The ladies at Devonshire loved him❤️. Denis and Joanie used to help with the Port Ministries in the summer and my daughter and I got the privilege of joining them. What a eye opening experience that was! Denis and Joanie attended the church service when my daughter was married at SJA in 2009. Exactly three months later, his beloved Joanie passed away. Wow that was a shock because he used to refer to her as the “energizer bunny”. How sad he was😞. My father passed away about 7 years ago and when I called Denis, he volunteered to come and do the prayer service! He also blessed us by baptizing my two grandchildren. He was always like a father figure to me and I loved him with all my heart. I will truly miss him but know he is in heaven with his beautiful wife!
