Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Foley (nee Ammond) of Lisle, IL, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Born to Leonard and Margaret (nee Boyle) Ammond on June 19, 1927 in Chicago. Preceded in death by her husband, William P. Foley, Jr. in 1968, her loving son, William P. Foley, III in 2013, her beloved sister, Mary Margaret McNamara and her brothers, Russell, Leonard and Hugh Ammond.

Betty is survived by a legacy of love in six of her children who adored her every day of her life – Liz (Mike) Orlock, Kathy (Neil) McFadden, Mary (Rick) Doman, Michael (Mary) Foley, Jim (Michelle) Foley and Margaret (Leland) Easter. Thirteen grandchildren – Kelly Doman, Tiffany (Bob) Seeberger, Chris (Jen) Orlock, Neil McFadden, Rich Doman, Nick (Amanda) Orlock, Brittany (Dan) Bergman, Colin (Katie) Foley, Caitlyn Foley, Maddie Foley, Kyla Foley, Alyssa Foley, Cale Easter. Eleven great grandchildren – Kapri, Kayla, Rori, Rosi, Adeline, Isabelle, Charlotte, Delilah, Grady, Selah and Bobbi Grace. Her dear cousin, Dr. Jack McGrail, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was raised on the west side of Chicago on Washington Boulevard, surrounded by family, where she graduated from St. Catherine of Siena High School and Chicago Teacher’s College. Summers were spent with extended family at their home on Long Lake. She worked at Carson Pirie Scott on State Street and taught in the Chicago Public Schools until she met and married Bill Foley, the love of her life, in 1951. They moved to North Riverside and eventually to Lisle, with their 7 children. After only 17 years of marriage, Bill passed away and Betty took to raising their young family with the caring support of family and friends. She devoted her life to ensuring their children felt the love of two parents in one, a mission that was beyond successful. Betty had a strong faith in God and she dedicated many years to St. Joan of Arc School and Church. Once her children were grown, she worked for the Illinois Tollway where she amassed many friendships that remain to this day. Betty’s kindness and compassion for others had a wide-reaching span, and anyone who knew her witnessed firsthand the ease and grace with which she showed love, forgiveness and inclusivity. Her legacy is that of making this world a better place one interaction at a time; a smile to a stranger, helping those in need, caring for a family member or friend and spreading kindness at every opportunity.

My mom is such an amazing woman! She was the silver lining in any situation, always positive, always God like, always smiling, always open arms and a welcoming smile. Nobody was a stranger and everybody warmed up to her immediately because of her infectious personality. She went thru many tough times raising 7 children alone after our dad Bill, her only love, died in 1968. She persisted, never complained and did a phenomenal job everyday up until God called her home November 12th. I will miss mom so very much but so thankful that she was chosen to be my mom and that I was so privileged to be her daughter.
Rest in Peace mom until we meet again. I LOVE you forever! Thank you for always being you....my amazing mother!

Margaret and Family ... what an absolutely beautiful obituary. It captured her life and legacy of love and acceptance completely. I miss her already - she was one in a million and I'm honored to have known her. It's said that a love like hers is a blessing and losing someone that special is even more difficult. Prayers to all of you that the clouds give way to sunshine and happy memories very soon. Love, Sue BF Busby

I knew Betty through the Lisle Park District Senior Center, and she was a true inspiration to me. She showed grace, kindness and positivity to all she encountered. She had a knack of knowing who might especially need some encouragement, and she never hesitated to give it. I will treasure my friendship with her always. My prayers go out to all the family as I know she will be so deeply missed.
