Eric A. Baker, 48, of Bolingbrook, passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on January 20, 1973, in Melrose Park to Donald and Minette (Donaldson) Baker, and grew up in Villa Park and Lombard along with his twin brother, Aaron. Together “the Baker boys” shared that special twin-bond, supporting each other through the ups and downs of childhood; having fun, and getting into trouble together.
Eric married his high-school sweetheart, Lisa Hudson, on October 14, 1993, in North Carolina while stationed in the 82nd Airborne Division. The couple both attended Glenbard East High School in Lombard and grew into lifelong partners, friends, and soul mates, sharing a deep love and respect for each other for over 31 years.
Eric was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back, and he would stop any task he was doing to assist a friend or stranger in need. Though Eric had no children of his own, he adored playing the role of “funcle” (fun uncle) to his nephews and the children of his lifelong friends. He enjoyed fossil hunting, hiking, camping, playing games, and just spending time with them. He took them on adventures, checked on them when they were sick, and gave them high fives when they succeeded. He was so proud to be “E-E”, “Uncle Eric”, and “Uncle Baker”. Because of the kind and loyal person he was, Eric made friends wherever he went, meaning there are too many friends-considered-family to name them all here. But because of the person he was, those same people know how much each one of them meant to him.
He was a self-proclaimed “Supply Nerd”, proud paratrooper “aka Dirtdart”, and Star Wars Geek with a love for Mandalorian Lore: “this is the way”. He fully admitted he had a dark sense of humor, a love for sick, twisted memes, and sarcasm. Others called him “loyal”, “mentor”, “strong”, and “hero.”
He will be remembered for his kindness, bravery, and friendship, as well as being a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. His passing leaves the world a little darker.
Eric is survived by his wife, Lisa; his mother, Minette; twin brother, Aaron (Jen); nephews, Andrew, and Zachary; and beloved friends, Carrie (Tom) Needham, and Jimmy Morton. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald.
Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not yet done.
A Celebration of Eric's life will be held on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle, from 4-9pm. with a time of sharing to be held at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mission 22, 694 N Larch St #910, Sisters, OR 97759, or online at https://mission22.com/donate.
