Girard "Jerry" Robert Gallup

July 11, 1937July 27, 2018

On July 27, 2018, Girard “Jerry” Robert Gallup, 81, of Naperville, passed away peacefully with family by his side. Jerry was born July 11, 1937, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to Girard W. Gallup and Marie (Petro) Gallup and grew up back East. He graduated Lehigh University with a bachelor’s of science degree in industrial engineering. Jerry followed in his father’s footsteps and hired on in retail with Sears Roebuck and Co. in New York, where he and wife Gail (Garcelon) set up house and started their family. With an opportunity to move to the corporate buying side at Sears in the early 1970s, he relocated to Chicago and worked at Sears Tower. He retired from Sears after 25 years and shifted his career to the supplier side of retail. One of his ventures included executive leadership of Ero Industries, where he experienced the thrill of taking a private business public. Then he retired from corporate America to sell real estate. While he received numerous top performer recognitions from ReMax in his 15+ years there, his greatest satisfaction came from caring for others. Ever the helper, Jerry parlayed his personal compassion and empathy to match buyers and sellers with their perfect homes, unsnarling any tangles along the way. Ever one to serve, Jerry was President of the Middleton Homeowners Association Board for a number of years. Fun and games kept Jerry young at heart (aka “a big kid”). When his children were young, Jerry would set up his train collection under the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. His love of trains continued with his grandchildren, as did his love of water. Ever cutting-edge, he had a hot tub installed in the basement in the early 1990s, making a tropical paradise available every day of the year for the family. For the past 20 years, the family vacation spot was the focus of Jerry’s love of boating, being outside, and lighting fireworks with family. He had a quick wit with quiet one-liners at the ready, albeit sometimes under his breath. Jerry was selfless with and loyal to his parents, wife, children, grandchildren, colleagues, customers, neighbors, and strangers alike. When you asked him how you could help him, he would deflect your request with a “How may I help YOU?” One neighbor/friend referred to Jerry as “an unbelievably nice man,” and countless people have their own fond memories of Jerry’s kindness and service. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail (Garcelon) Gallup; brother Ralph William Gallup; children Bob Gallup (Kristen LaDuke Gallup) and Michelle (Gallup) Honeysett (Mike Honeysett); and grandchildren Lauren Gallup Muck, Adam Gallup, Evan Honeysett, and Braeden Honeysett. A celebration of Jerry’s life will occur Tues, July 31, 2018, from 5p to 7p at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle, IL. The family requests donations be made to the Parkinsons Foundation ( in lieu of flowers.

have a memory or condolence to add?

July 29, 2018

Back in 2006, Cheryl and I met an unbelievably nice man who happened to be a Real Estate Agent. He said that he'd help us purchase a beautiful townhouse in Lisle, and even help to sell our unit in Naperville. He did BOTH!

Today we learned that this wonderful man, who had become a personal friend, has passed on to a better place. He was always there when someone needed him, especially with anything related to Middleton Place. The attached picture I took of Jerry, on May 29, 2012 --- along with the late Frank Keller (also a former Board President) --- just seems to capture his endless contributions and dedication to our townhouse community.

We send our most sincere condolences (and prayers) to Gail, and the entire Gallop family, at this very difficult time.
