John Michael Ruta, born on November 17, 1942, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025. John was born in Chicago, Illinois, and he later moved with his family to Western Springs, where he graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1960.
John was a patient, exacting, and curious craftsman. For more than 25 years he applied this skill and dedication to his work at the Reynolds Metals Company in McCook, Illinois. At home, his garage was both his workshop and sanctuary. He spent countless hours surrounded by tools and his own inventions, tinkering and repairing just about anything. On Riedy Road and throughout Lisle, everyone knew that when a lawnmower started making a suspicious sound, or to just simply share in lively conversation, one could stop by John’s - as there was very little he could not fix, whether it was a machine or a mood.
John will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and the steady kindness he shared with everyone he met.
John is survived by his five children - Michael Ruta, Amy Ruta, Gina Ruta, Cherie Mondrella, and Laura Stokes (Jameson) - and by his siblings Linda Debillio (Joe) and Herman Ruta (Dot). He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Steve Ruta, and his sister Rose Jessen (Jim). John was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, and is survived by his former wife, Nancy Ruta, mother of Michael, Amy, and Gina.
The Memorial Visitation to honor the life of John Michael Ruta will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle, Illinois. A reception will follow at Rayme’s Restaurant from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Please join us in celebrating his life and honoring his memory.
