

Born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Earl and Melissa (Hubble) Winchel, he attended Saint Mel’s high school where he was a member of the ROTC program. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force in 1951 where he served as a radar technician and was promoted to a 1st Class Airmen before his honorable discharge in 1955.
Following his service in the Air Force, Ken went on to have a long career with IBEW as an electrician. When not working, he was a man of many hobbies; he enjoyed photography, golf, was a master fisherman, learned wine, beer, and bread making, trained a show dog, and enjoyed trapshooting. He was also an avid reader, a seasoned gardener, and with his beloved wife by his side a world traveler- there weren’t many places they didn’t go.
He married the love of his life with whom he shared almost 63 years, the late Patricia (O’Byrne) with whom he had three children; Kathy (Brett) Gossen, Ronald Winchel, and Margaret (Mike) Fugiel. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelsey (Steven), Megan, Morgan (Spencer), Drew, and Amie (Ben); and two great grandchildren, Payton and McKenna; and his sister, Carol Bettiga.
Friends and family will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial that will take place on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 at 10 AM at Christ the King in Lombard, Illinois with an inurnment to follow at Queen of Heaven in Hillside, Illinois.
