Kevin & Jean were married at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church where all three children attended school and received their sacraments.
Kevin is survived by his loving siblings, Michael G. (Marie) Neis of Warrenville, IL and Mary E. (Monte) Speidel of St. Paul, MN; his cherished nieces and nephews, Donald A. Neis III, Janet (Michael) Sizemore, Megan Neis, Margaret (Andrew) Roth, Kathleen Woodin, Kristen (Kenneth) Donaldson-Mescall, Bryan (Stephanie) Donaldson, Regina (Ryan) Bell-Lostetter, Aidan, Brendan, & Cameron Neis, and many great-nieces and nephews. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Albert Neis and Mary Theresa nee Seavolt) Neis and three of his brothers: Donald Jr. (Mary), John, and Robert (Victoria).
Kevin attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School and graduated from Naperville North High School in 1985. He later attended Joliet Jr. College, College of DuPage, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Hillsdale College to study business. He worked at Haulistics (formerly known as Quad Graphics and Quebecor World) as a paralegal and Senior Compliance Specialist for the past 25+ years.
Kevin devoted his time to the Catholic Church and many organizations. He went to the St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Romeoville, IL and was ordained as a deacon for the Diocese of Joliet in 2013. At one point, he was a 4th Degree Knight and chaplain for the local Knights of Columbus. He frequently visited with friends at the local Knights of Columbus Hall in Joliet and the Dale Athletic Club in Rockdale, IL. He taught sacramental preparation to students in second to eighth grade, worked with engaged couples through Ss. Peter and Paul’s Pre-Cana program, and followed in his mother’s footsteps by volunteering at the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen in Chicago. Upon moving to Joliet in 2020, he became more involved with serving at Mass at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale.
Kevin had many interests. He was passionate about his Scottish heritage, competing in local Scottish Highland Games events and serving as the Heavy Athletics Director for the Illinois St. Andrew Society for many years. He was a track and field coach for his children and others at Ss. Peter and Paul School and for students at Aurora University. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, was highly ranked in various forms of martial arts, supported the Navy SEAL Foundation, and loved watching Notre Dame football.
Kevin was proud of being commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, like his father. He often quoted his favorite movies and shared his love of music with his family and friends, attending many concerts over the years. His sense of humor and love for others will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Kevin’s life, memorial donations may be made to the Missionaries of Charity in Chicago at 2325 West 24th Place, Chicago, Illinois, 60608.
