Lois Mae Wendt Simpson, 97, of Lisle IL, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry, in 2003.
Born in Chicago on September 22, 1927, she graduated from Maine {East} High School and went on to secretarial work at Commonwealth Edison where she met her future husband, Larry Simpson. A dedicated homemaker, she kept her home and garden beautifully and in time worked as a salesclerk in the China department at Marshall Fields. She nurtured numerous hobbies which included gardening, bowling, golf, bridge and was a lifelong avid Cubs fan. After retirement, Lois and Larry travelled all around the USA, Europe and enjoyed many winters in Florida. She was especially known for her baking and would begin preparing her Christmas treats as early as September. Later on in her years, she could be seen attending her grandchildren’s sporting and school events and volunteering as a Grandma Reader at Beebe Elementary School.
Fiercely independent, after Larry’s passing she lived in her own home for over 20 years and still drove her Honda until 2 years ago. After moving into Arbor Terrace, she continued to have an impact on those around her making more beloved friends in her community.
She is survived by her children Linda Lehtola (Scott), Barbara Morris (Michael), Randy Simpson (Lisa), and Christy Russell (Roger); grandchildren Jennifer Hicks (Tristan), Andrea Musser, Ryan Russell (Ashlyn), Scott Simpson (Amy), Lindsey Russell, Kurt Simpson, and Jacob Russell along with great-granddaughters Addison and Grace Simpson. She is cherished and will be greatly missed.
Those who wish to express sympathy are invited to make a donation to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisle, in lieu of flowers. A memorial service will be held at Alleluia Lutheran Church, 4055 Book Rd. Naperville IL. at 12:30p on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
