Mary F. "Ethel" McDonough (nee Fitzgerald), 86, of Lisle, Illinois passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, May 23, 2021. She spent her last days surrounded by her family in a celebration of her life.
Ethel was born the fourth of seven children to Arthur and Nell Fitzgerald and was raised on the south side of Chicago. She attended Visitation High School and was a member of Visitation Catholic Church. Her Catholic faith was her guidepost and strength in life. She was a lifelong volunteer for the church and many other organizations. Ethel was a founding member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering at the parish in many capacities including Eucharistic minister, greeter, counselor of engaged couples, vestments, funeral lunches, and office work. She worked for several years at St. Joan of Arc Catholic elementary school as a classroom aide. Ethel and her late husband Charles "Chuck" McDonough enjoyed travel and her favorite trips included pilgrimages to Medjugorje and Jerusalem. Ethel was an avid bowler, bingo, and bridge player.
She is survived by her sister Denise Jacobs, her four children Matt (Carmen) McDonough, Marycarol (Michael) Park, Randy (Amber) McDonough, and Marla (Jeff) DuCharme, and her three grandchildren Ty Charles DuCharme, Marcus Charles McDonough, and Maia Charlotte McDonough. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her beloved Smith "grandchildren".
A memorial mass will be celebrated Monday, June 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville, Illinois 60540. Entombment will be held privately on Tuesday, June 15th at 10:30 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 West Hoff Road, Elwood, Illinois 60421.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart, 1910 Maple Avenue, Lisle Illinois 60532.
