Sandy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. She met Ronald Johnson in 1957 and the two were married in Des Moines in 1962. The couple welcomed their first child, Michelle, in 1964, and a son, Scott, in 1966. The family stayed in Des Moines until 1999 when Ron and Sandy retired and moved, spending their winters in Las Vegas, and their summers in Lisle, IL.
Sandy worked at Bankers Life Company until giving birth to Michelle. She then changed her primary occupation to mother and housewife. Over the subsequent years, she sold Avon products, and was among the first part-time employees hired by Aldi Grocery when they opened their first store in the Des Moines area.
Over the years, Sandy participated in a variety of civic activities. She was a major influence with concession stand activities at the Des Moines Girls Softball League, Beaverdale Little League, and Hoover High School. She was a member of Mercy Hospital's Auxiliary for many years and served as President from 1993-1994. In her retirement, Sandy enjoyed knitting, spending time in her cactus garden, and was an enthusiastic genealogist. She loved talking about family history to everyone. Her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren.
Sandy will be remembered as being a devoted and proud wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Ron; children, Michelle, and Scott; grandchildren, Jake and Hanna Droessler, and Maxwell and Walter Johnson. Also left to cherish Sandy's memory are her siblings, Phyllis DeCarlo, John (Connie) Masolini, Raye Fisher, Toni Masolini, and Dino Masolini. She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law, Joe Droessler; and brothers-in-law, Joe DeCarlo, and Raymond Fisher.
A Visitation will be held at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 4-7pm.
