Born to William and Joyce Van Duzen on October 1st, 1955, in Lisle, Illinois. Susan was known by all for her kindness and generosity, quick wit and sense of humor, and sensitive soul.
As a child, Susan, lovingly known by all as Susie, loved animals- especially her companion pup, Ringo. She spoke of her childhood, especially of her adventures with her siblings fondly, and regaled all with stories of spirited family softball games, family parties, and the mischief she was quite often leading her brothers and sisters into. A natural storyteller, these tales were often accompanied by her sparkling blue eyes and contagious laughter.
Susie married in 1979, and she had no greater pride than the children she brought into this world. Joyce Jennifer and Nellie Jeanne- her surprise twins, Elizabeth Susan, her namesake and her greatest sorrow- who was taken from this world too soon, Stephanie Helen- her free spirit, and Alexander Michael- her only son and definite favorite, as her daughters joked often to her.
Susie lived a life of many adventures, still shared with great awe and amusement by family and also by the many friends she made wherever she went. There was not a person she met, whose heart she did not touch, and her children are grateful for the special friendships she built throughout her time on earth.
Susie is preceded in death by her father, William Van Duzen and Mother Joyce Van Duzen, as well as her sister Jeanne Grenemeier. Her baby daughter, whom she lost to leukemia in 1983, preceded all of the aforementioned, and we know that our Mama was met by Lizzie with an embrace she’d been waiting decades to give. It is this that gives her children comfort in this time of sadness.
Susie would have wanted her children, eleven cherished grandchildren, her sister, her brother, extended family, and many friends to celebrate rather than mourn and know that she is finally at peace.
Services for our Mama will be held at Blake and Lamb Funeral Home, 5015 Lincoln Avenue, Lisle, Illinois on Friday, May 5th, 2023. A visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon. Susie will be laid to rest next to her mother and her daughter at Clarendon Hills Cemetery following the memorial. We invite all who loved this extraordinary soul to join us for the service and reception to follow.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.Blake-LambFuneralHome.com for the Hunter family.
