Timothy Devlin Briggs (66) of Lisle, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022 at their Michigan home in Spring Lake after having spent a wonderful weekend with his wife and friends, enjoying the Grand Haven, MI kite festival.
Tim was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on a frosty winter Sunday, February 19, 1956, the second-born son of Thomas Lee and Patricia Marie (Devlin) Briggs, both now deceased. When a youngster, he moved with his parents and siblings to the state of New York, eventually settling in Fayetteville. He graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 1974. While there, he loved playing volleyball, running track and skiing, and was the editor of the school newspaper, The Hornet's Nest. He then attended Utica College, where he met the love of his life, Patricia Griffith. They transferred to Syracuse University where he graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1979.
In July1978 he and Pat were married in the Chapel of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The reception which followed took place on a very hot day at the old mill in Robert Treman State Park. Champagne flowed and cooled the family and friends who attended
Tim's career began in Stamford, Connecticut, in sales for an engineering company. Tim had more than 35 years of diverse experience in the environmental, chemical, dredging and mining industries. He had specialized design expertise in the areas of dredging, sediment capping, soil and sediment stabilization/solidification material handling systems, and wastewater treatment. He was most recently the Senior Team Manager for the White Lake Dock & Dredge management team in Norton Shores, Michigan, beginning with the company in 2016.
Tim cherished his family. his sons education was important to him; so much so that he opened "Tim's Trade School," to ensure they learned hands-on skills.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years. They have two sons--Travis James (Melissa Adamson) and Justin Thomas (Katie Olson), a 2-year-old grandson, Finnegan Walter (Justin & Katie), and a soon-to-be granddaughter. Also, he is survived by all four of his siblings--John Carl Briggs (Susan Izumi) and their son, Christopher Izumi Briggs; Eileen Frances Briggs; Clare Cameron (Briggs) Miller (Kevin Miller, deceased), and their children Sean Michael, Scott Cameron and Patricia Clare Miller (Lamar Chamblee) and their daughter, Khloe Bean Chamblee; Mary Barbara Briggs. He also has three surviving aunts--Mary (Devlin) Pira (Frank, deceased); Sr. Margaret (Devlin), OP; and Bernadette (Devlin) Barberi (Edward). Numerous cousins also survive. His in-laws became very close. They are his mother- and father-in-law, Barbara (Lemke) and James Griffith and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Griffith (John Chaval) and Julie (Griffith) Schulenberg (Alan Schulenberg).
There will be no formal services. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
