Albert Harris, Sr., a decorated United States Air Force veteran, devoted father, and proud son of Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 8th, 2026. He was 83 years old. Born on February 24, 1943, in Seaton, Arkansas, Albert was raised in the home of his parents, Richard and Erma Harris, alongside four brothers and two sisters. Growing up under the guidance of his father, Albert learned early the values of strict discipline, quiet strength, and an unyielding respect for authority—principles that became the bedrock of his character and guided his entire life.
In 1967, Albert answered the call of duty and entered active service with the United States Air Force, beginning a distinguished 23-year military career. A veteran of the Vietnam War and multiple overseas tours—including service in Korea and Germany—he rose through the ranks to earn the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Serving primarily as a Materiel Storage & Distribution Supervisor, SMSgt Harris was widely respected by those under his leadership as firm, fair, and fiercely loyal to those who did their duty. Over his decades of dedicated service, he earned numerous decorations, including the Air Force Achievement Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
Those who knew Albert understood that he viewed the world through a military lens—direct, disciplined, and unwavering. Though his exterior was firm and unyielding, those who looked beyond the surface found a deeply reflective man with a dry wit, an eye for quality—from a well-tuned car to a finely shined pair of leather shoes.
In 1966, Albert was united in marriage to Vertie Jean Harris. Together, they built a home that embraced and blended their family, which included her children—Michael, Harold, Donna, and Steve—and Albert’s daughters, Beverly Cole Anderson and Regina Harris. Their union was further blessed with the birth of their son, Albert Harris, Jr.
Albert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vertie Jean Harris; his parents, Richard and Earmlean Harris; his brothers, Richard Harris, Jr., Sammy Harris, and Henry Harris; and his sisters, Erma L. McKinney and Rachel Brewer.
He is survived by his children: Albert Harris, Jr. and wife Lisa Harris, Michael Young and wife Dorthy Young, Harold Young and wife Karen Young, Donna Daniel and husband Carl Daniel, Steve Young and wife Kim Young, Regina Harris, Beverly Anderson and husband James Anderson, his brother, Leotis Harris and wife Gloria; as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and fellow service members.
