A beautiful life entered Heaven’s Pearly Gates on Thursday, May 13th, 2021, when God called Bernice Peery Devine home to live with Him. She was born August 9th, 1940 to Lim A. Peery and Etta Winters Peery in Kilmichael, Mississippi. She was the 11th of 12 children.
The family moved to Wynne, Arkansas where Bernice accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age, becoming a member of the Union Valley Missionary Baptist. She loved the Lord and was a faithful servant throughout her life.
Bernice graduated from Childress High School, Class of 1958 in Wynne, Arkansas. She took higher education classes with Crowley’s Ridge Vocational Technical School and East Arkansas Community College. She accepted a position in 1968 with Arkansas Power Light which later became Entergy Arkansas and remained a loyal employee with the company, positively influencing, impacting, and mentoring countless others until her retirement in 2002; 34 years!
She was an active and faithful member of the choir at the First Baptist Church of Forrest City, Arkansas. Upon her relocation to Little Rock, she joined the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where her love of service to her Heavenly Father placed her in numerous positions throughout. She served as a member of the powerful Angelical Choir, Sunday School Teacher, Christian Education Department leader, President of the Trustee Board, member of the Greater Shiloh Mission Society, and the 13 churches strong North Little Rock City Mission.
Bernice Peery was united in holy matrimony to CR Walker, Sr in 1958. From this union, three children were born. Her heart for God and love for the church were tremendous and so was her love for her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to Clifton Jr. (Kokey), Sharon, and Roderick. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, and hosting and attending family gatherings.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, (George, John, Major, and Joe Louis), 5 sisters (Virginia, Etta Mae, Bertha Lee, Magnolia, Mattie Lee), and her son, Clifton Jr. (Kokey).
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Sharon Carson, (Victor), son Roderick Walker, (Linda), daughter-in-law Jo-Annette Peyton, her sisters Pankie Johnson and Everlee Hayden, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
