Carolyn Jean McAllester, 88, of Mabelvale passed away November 1, 2024. She was born September 14, 1936 in Mabelvale to the late Raymon Hugh and Angie (Little) Meyer. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Herman Wesley McAllester Jr.
Carolyn was always at her happiest outdoors, surrounded by nature. She had a particular passion for her garden, where she cultivated a variety of flowers, with calla lilies being her favorite. In addition to her love for nature and exploration, Carolyn was an active member of the Ozarks Society and the Sierra Club, and she remained a lifelong member of the Mabelvale Methodist Church.
Later in life, Carolyn formed a close-knit group of friends with whom she traveled and hiked. She and her hiking companions journeyed to numerous countries and explored trails across the U.S., embracing the beauty of the world in every step they took.
At 73, Carolyn began working at her daughter’s, Annette and Sammy’s restaurant, Three Sam’s BQ Joint in Mabelvale, where she worked alongside Annette every day without fail. She quickly became a beloved figure among the restaurant’s customers, who appreciated her warmth and charm. Carolyn was known for her strong work ethic—she worked as hard as anyone, and even after a long day at the restaurant, she would take a two-mile walk. After they sold the business, Carolyn’s routine remained unchanged. She continued to walk daily and spent hours in her flowerbeds, caring for them until dusk.
Carolyn’s adventurous spirit truly blossomed after she retired from the VA. Though she began her "second life" later than most, she never slowed down. She continued her hiking trips, stayed active, and embraced every opportunity for new experiences, right up until her health began to decline in late 2022.
She is survived by her two daughters, Annette Jones and Angelia DiCicco; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and extended family that will miss her dearly.
Memorial services are pending.
