Dorothy Louise Byrd, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 21. Lovingly known to friends and family as "Dot", she was a kind and gentle soul, and a dedicated wife and mother who will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

She was born in Tennessee, on August 3, 1935 to the late, Dewey and Ethel (Mills) McCoy. Her parents owned a farm and she was one of 10 children; 5 sisters and 4 brothers. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Otha Maldry Byrd, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by three children, Sharron Byrd Cossey (Dennis), of Little Rock, Debra Byrd of Tuscaloosa, AL and, Dwain Byrd (Tracy) of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, John Byrd and Daniel Byrd, of Fayetteville; one brother, Hubert McCoy (Jane) and one sister, Bonnie; and numerous nephews and nieces.

As the wife of an Air Force veteran, Dot followed her husband to four states. However, their last move found the family in Little Rock in 1968, where they decided this was to be their "home."

Dot was kind and outgoing, easily meeting people, but never a stranger. As a result, she leaves behind many cherished and lasting friendships. She was an active participant in the University of Arkansas Medical Science geriatric outreach program. She loved her neighbors and home of 46 years, then her apartment at the Manor Assisted Living, her final home with Sharron and Dennis. She enjoyed being doted over and the activities planned for her each day. She especially enjoyed her daily walks to "Dot Park" on the river.

A fifty-year member of Geyer Springs Baptist Church, she lived her daily life guided by Christian principles.

Dot's life will be honored by family members during graveside services at Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery, 7401 Hwy. 5, Alexander, AR, on October 14th at 10:30 am, with Brother Paul Sanders Officiating.
