Dorothy H McAllister, 97, of North Little Rock, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, September 13, 2020. She was born in Lonoke County, Arkansas on October 29, 1922, to Harry and Grace Hamilton.
She married Joseph A. McAllister, Jr. on June 10, 1944 while he was serving in the navy during WWII and remained married 47 years until his death, May 15, 1991.
After graduating from North Little Rock High School, Dorothy went to work for the North Little Rock Public School System, primarily as secretary to the superintendent for 25 years. She worked another 25 years for the Federation on American Health Systems as Director of Administrative Services. She taught stenography at UALR for a number of years at night. She was known for her dedication and high standards of excellence in the work place.
For years Dorothy was a member of Park Hill Baptist Church, but after retirement, she moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas where she was a member of University Baptist Church. She loved family, Christmas and Arkansas Razorback sports. In the words of her grandchildren, “Your laughter is good for the soul.” “You are a combination of sweet and spunky and you bring so much joy to the lives of others.” “Every day with you is a precious gift from God.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers, Ernest and Homer Hamilton and 1 sister, Peggy Mitchell.
She is survived by her son, Larry McAllister and wife Pam and their sons Clay and Cole and his wife Mimi, her daughter, Debbie Jo Wright and her husband, Danny and their three children, David Wright and his wife, Ashley, Danielle Allen and her husband, Jared and Dorothy Witmeyer and her husband Travis and five great grandchildren, Claire, Sutton, Amelia, Naomi and Fisher.
A grave side service will be held, Saturday, September 19 at 10:00 am at Pinecrest Cemetery, Alexander, Arkansas. Due to the Covid-19 situation, face coverings must be worn and social distancing observed.
