Jean Ann Speegle

On Monday, June 26, 2023, Jean Ann Speegle peacefully passed away after a full life of 92 years. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and at 8 years old her family moved to Dennard, Arkansas. While there she survived a chasey rooster and suffered the loss of her family’s home to fire. Jean’s family later moved to Miami, Oklahoma where she finished high school and then attended Northeast Oklahoma A&M College 1949 - 1950 where she met her future husband, Lyon Speegle.

Lyon and Jean married on September 5, 1954. They later had 2 daughters, Holly & Lisa. The family of four traveled extensively, including an extended stay in Great Britain as Lyon pursued a career in the Air Force.

In 1964 - 1965 Jean attended Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma and started studying for her future degree. In 1970 the family was stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas. They soon settled in North Little Rock and came to call Arkansas their permanent home.

Jean enrolled at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to complete her B.A. in Psychology in 1975 - 1977. She went on to get her Master of Social Work at the Graduate School of Social Work, University of Arkansas at Little Rock 1978 -1979.

After working for years as a L.C.S.W., Jean joined the Little Rock Psychotherapy Group as a private practitioner in 1990 where she had a very fulfilling and successful career. She retired in December of 2019.

Jean found joy in helping others better understand themselves and improve their lives. But she especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren, and later, two great grandchildren.

Her gift was the ability to listen without judgment. Her magic was to express true empathy. Her charm was the warmth of her smile.

She will be missed but will always be celebrated with love in our hearts.

A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Life of Jean Speegle will be held July 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72204. Reception to follow in the Fireside Room.
