Joyce Lynne Roberts, aged 53, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 7, 2015. Born in Monroe, LA to parents Loyd and Marge Roberts, she was baptized into the Southern Baptist faith as a child and came to embrace a more open spiritual life in later life. Joyce graduated from Bryant High School in 1979 and went on to obtain her Associates Degree in Nursing from Louisiana Tech Nursing School. At age 25, Joyce was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she battled and beat while completing her nursing degree. She participated in the “Walk for the Cure” Breast Cancer fund raiser for many years.
Joyce devoted her career to nursing, working in emergency rooms, prisons and with special enjoyment at ARChild, where she received recognition for her work with children with disabilities. She was an active member of several nursing associations. She enjoyed a wide variety of interests including being in the outdoors, hunting, gardening, road trips, Razorbacks and making “award winning” Bar-B-Q. She especially loved her truck and her home, making most home repairs herself. It is especially fitting that she left this world during her favorite time of the year, deer season. Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Loyd Roberts. She leaves to celebrate her memory her mother, Marge Roberts of Little Rock and her brothers, Doug Roberts of Little Rock, Bruce (Annie) Roberts of Wellington, New Zealand and Troy (Vivian ) of El Paso, Texas along with her spouse, Charles “Sonny” Whaley of Georgia.
Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Joyce from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, October 9th at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Joyce’s memory to ARChild, 5312 W. 10th St., Little Rock, AR. The family requests that everyone wear pink to the visitation in honor of Joyce. Joyce was loved by many for her unique spirit and love of life, she will be remembered always.
