Mildred Marie Leitch Vinsant was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She graduated from Toronto East General Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis University in Joliet, Illinois. Marie worked in a Japanese hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii for two years where she met her late husband, Richard Vinsant. They later married and moved to Little Rock where Marie was employed by the Little Rock School District for 22 years as a nurse and as an educator.
Marie held many offices in the nursing and teaching professions, as well as Civitan International, the Little Rock Yacht Club and various other organizations in which she participated. She took an active interest her community. During the time of her marriage to Richard Vinsant, they were founding members of the Little Rock Racquet Club, Fifty for the Future, the Little Rock Power Squadron, and the Little Rock Yacht Club. She was one of the first Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) in the State of Arkansas, and later served as President of the Hall High School Parent Teachers Association. Marie was instrumental in helping Carol Smiley open her first Youth Home.
Marie leaves behind to mourn her passing four children: Dr. Kurt Vinsant (Barbi), Valerie Clayborn (John), Tim Vinsant, and Jan Nobles. Seven grandchildren: Garth Clayborn, Molly Bill, Lauren Kelley, Hillary Davis, Natalie Miller, Nick Nobles, and Alex Nobles. Ten great-grandchildren: Spencer Kelley, Evelyn Kelley, Ruby Miller, Charlotte Miller, Pierce Miller, Thomas Davis, Laurel Davis, Devin Clayborn, Caleigh Clayborn and Lora Nobles.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided to Marie in her final years.
A Memorial service will be held on December 5, 2018, 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 West 12th Street, Little Rock, Arkansas.
