

Marilyn M. Owen, of Little Rock, was born in Nashville, Arkansas on January 5, 1946, the daughter of William L. and Myrtle R. Morgan. Marilyn and William L. Owen married March 11, 1971. She died December 24, 2015 with her husband by her side holding her hand. Marilyn attended Mabelvale High School, Mabelvale, Arkansas, graduating in 1963 in the upper 10% of her class. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1982 majoring in Accounting. Shortly after graduation, she told her husband that she was going out to U.A.L.R. to enroll in one or two classes. Much to his surprise, or maybe not, that evening she told him that she had enrolled in two master degree programs, Masters of Business Administration as well as a Masters of applied psychology, which she intended to and did pursue simultaneously. Marilyn was awarded the M.B.A. in 1984 at which time she was one credit short of the other degree. In June, she accepted a position with Merrill, Lynch, Perce, Fenner & Smith, and, after passing the securities exam, worked as a Financial Consultant for several years. Marilyn was involved in her community. She was President of the Arkansas State Training School for Girls Auxiliary. She was a co-organizer and the first President of the Pulaski County Bar Auxiliary, an organization of spouses of members of the Pulaski County Bar Association. Marilyn was the organizer and chairman of the very first Symphony Designer House during 1974-75. Her involvement with Arkansas Symphony continued after Designer House. She served as Vice President of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society Guild during 1977-78. She served on the Board of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra Society through 1982 during which time she chaired the Personnel Committee, was a member of the Nominating Committee, Chaired the Finance and Long Range Planning Committee and served as Treasurer. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Little Rock. She participated in other civil organizations, including but not limited to Arkansas Arts Center, Florence Crittenton Home Junior Board, and the Little Rock Junior Departmental Club. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, William L. and Myrtle R. Morgan, a sister, Betty Lorain Morgan, a brother, Michael L. Morgan, and two uncles, M.T. Lawrence, and Sloan Lawrence. She is survived by an aunt, Ann Coker of DeQueen, Arkansas, several cousins, three feline companions, Michael, Jake and Alice, as well as her husband, William L. Owen. A funeral service will be held as St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 12415 Cantrell Rd, Little Rock, AR 72223 at 10:00 a.m. on January 5, 2015. Interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery 10200 Highway 5, N. Alexander, AR 72002 beside her mother, dad and brother. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorials to, St. Michael's Episcopal Church, The Junior League of Little Rock, Pulaski County Humane Society, or a favorite charity.
