OBITUARY

Paula Kay Martin

August 19, 1941April 6, 2021

On Tuesday, April 06, 2021, loving mother and grandmother Paula Kay Martin of Little Rock passed into the loving arms of her Lord at the age of 79. Born in Memphis, TN, Paula graduated from the University of Arkansas where she was a Pi Phi. She briefly taught school before dedicating herself to raising her three children, Karen, Paula Marie, and Al. Later she worked in retail for Dillards for twenty years.

Paula was devoted to her beloved Catholic Church and tirelessly sought to help the poor, wayward, and downtrodden. Her compassion for others led her to become a Carmelite, a Roman Catholic mendicant religious order who work to be attentive to the cry of the poor and powerless, constantly renewing their tradition and spirituality in today’s world. Paula loved nature and found beauty in flowers, birds, and children. She was also an avid reader and regularly wrote poetry.

Paula was preceded in death by her mother Marjorie and her father Paul. She is survived by her sister Marcia, her beloved partner and companion of many years Leon Booth, her daughters Karen Lovejoy Martin and Paula Marie Martin, her son Rufus Algernon Martin, III (Al), as well as her four grandchildren: Annaliese Morell, Sophia Morell, Jude Morell, and Claire Martin.

A funeral service is currently being planned and will be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Helping Hand of Greater Little Rock.

Paula’s faith and trust in the Lord have been such an inspiration to us! I’m sure she will continue to be part of our prayer group as a powerful intercesor, but we will miss the joy she carried into the room that always lifted us up and gave us hope.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ (Mt 25:21)
Well done, Paula, well done.

Paula will be greatly missed. She was a member of the Little Rock Carmelite Secular community. To me she was a wonderful example of humility and kindness. I learned a lot from her. May she rest in the arms of our Blessed Mother and dwell in the Most Holy Trinity.

I’ll always cherish my friendship with Paula! She was this beautiful little redhead from Memphis who pledged Pi Beta Phi with us in 1960—she was so much fun and was loved by all!
Rest In Peace, Paula
