Raymond Steverson was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1932 in Conway, Arkansas to Folly Steverson and Helen Kelley Duvall Jackson who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his former wives, Fannie B.Steverson, Patsy Steverson and his brother Horace Levon Duvall Jr. He attended the Pine Street School in Conway, Arkansas. Raymond accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was a current member of the Geyer Springs Church of Christ in Little Rock, Arkansas.
He joined the Army in 1950, and served in Korea, Germany, and Vietnam. He earned the distinguished purple heart medal during his service in Korea and another in Vietnam. He retired from active service as an Army Sergeant First Class in 1973.
After his retirement from the Army, Raymond returned to work for the government in Civil Service in 1973. He continued to serve until 1994 when he retired for a second time.
Raymond was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and he enjoyed playing poker with his family and friends. Other favorite pastimes included tracking the daily news, watching old westerns on TV, and listening to the blues. He was also a former member of the Appomattox Club, one of the oldest Black social clubs in Little Rock , Arkansas,
Raymond is survived by his daughter Sandra Steverson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his brother Michael Duvall ( Janice) of Dallas, Texas, and his Sister Sweetie Barron (Kenneth) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Two Sister in laws, Jean Dickson of Detroit, Michigan, and Laverne Duvall of Little Rock, Arkansas. He also leaves behind his special friends, Marceliers and Joann Hewett, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
