

Rosemary Riley Sorsby of Little Rock died June 16, 2014. She was born to Dr. Wilbur Kirk Riley and Elizabeth Daley Riley in Beemer, Nebraska December 16, 1921. She had one brother, Dr. William Kirk Riley. She lived in Wisner, Nebraska until she was 8 years old. In 1930 she moved to Ft. Lyon in Colorado with her family. In 1937 she moved to Little Rock with her family and lived at Ft. Roots VA Hospital. After graduating from Little Rock High School with honors in 1939, she attended college at the University of Nebraska, was a Tri Delta Sorority Sister, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1943. In 1951, she received her Master’s in Social Work from Tulane University. Rosemary had three children; Dr. John E. Carter of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Riley A. Middaugh of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dr. Stephen C. Sorsby of Alexander, Arkansas. She spent her professional career as a social worker for the VA with most of her time working in the Little Rock VA system. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Daley Riley; brother, Dr. William Kirk Riley; father, Dr. Wilbur Kirk Riley; beloved cousin, Millie Horst and her great-granddaughter, Ashley Marie Sorsby-Eichelmann. She will be sorely missed by her three children; nine grandchildren, Scott Carter, Kevin Carter, Richard Sean Sorsby-Eichlemann, Jason Sorsby, Cyrena (Sorsby) Cotton, Lincoln Sorsby, Michael Middaugh, Christopher Middaugh and Jonathan Middaugh, and 19 great-grandchildren.
