On Friday, April 14, Sheila Kaye Nettles-Hendrix, 79, passed away peacefully. Sheila is survived by her husband, Bill Hendrix; two sons, Cary Nettles (Renee) and Mark Nettles (Shawn); two sisters, Jana Scimeca Medina (Ray) and Paula Simmons (Mike); her brother, Chris Simmons (Valerie); three grandchildren, Amanda Keast (Zach), Olivia Cannon (Mack), and Kristen Nettles; one great grandchild, Stella Cannon; and many more extended family and friends.
Sheila was born on May 31, 1943, to parents Richard Samuel Simmons and Jacquelyn Mae Simmons. She graduated from Mabelvale High School in 1961. She pursued her nursing education at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, where she received her Associates Degree in 1984. Sheila continued her academic pursuits at Wesleyan University, graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. With her extensive knowledge and education, Sheila excelled in her nursing career. She dedicated over 30 years of her life service in healthcare. She retired in 2015 at Baptist Health Rehabilitation Institute as a Nurse Educator.
Apart from her professional achievements, Sheila loved gardening and spent countless hours tending to her beautiful and peaceful backyard. She loved the outdoors, particularly fly fishing at the White River with her husband, Bill. Some of her favorite hobbies included cooking delicious meals, making quilts and jewelry, spending time with family, and catching up on TV shows with Bill.
Sheila’s family will hold a private commemoration in honor of her life.
