Sibyl Inez Maddox, known as Mamaw to most, was reunited with Clifford Alexander Maddox, her husband of 65 years, in heaven on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 12:01am. She passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family.

Sibyl was born on October 8, 1917 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was a life long Arkansan and avid Razorback fan that loved to cook, entertain, play scrabble, solve cryptoquotes and most of all spend time with family. Sibyl had a strong faith and was an active member of the Immanuel Baptist Church and Family Church Bryant.

She worked at the Arkansas Highway Department and in retirement served as the Secretary and Treasurer of the Retirees Association from 1983 to 2002. Sibyl was a dedicated member of the Back of the Bus Razorbacks Club and the Federation of Women’s Clubs. She was also active in the American Business Women’s Association for more than 50 years and was proud to be named the Women of the Year numerous times.

Sibyl’s favorite decade was the 1930’s. She married C.A, the love of her life, on October 28, 1934, and became a mother of three beautiful children. Family was considered her greatest life achievement. She built a legacy with her love and taught us to live life to the fullest.

She is survived by three children — Pat Richardson, Bob Maddox [Bonita Maddox] and Sandra Skyrme-Cheney [Kip Cheney]; eight grandchildren - Shawna Downing-Reed, Kimberly Skyrme, Suzanne Maddox-Norwood, Ashley Skyrme-Webner, Amy Maddox-Cypert, Brooke Skyrme-LaCaria, Jeffrey Richardson and James Robert Maddox Jr.; nine great grandchildren — Clint Maddox, Sarah Beth Norwood-Rome, Kelsey Reed, Emily Norwood, Maddox Webner, Grace Webner, Alexandra LaCaria, Peyton Maddox, and Jenna Richardson; and three great-great grandchildren — Rylee Maddox, Daxton Stephens and another Great-Great Grandchild on the way.

Sibyl had a wonderful personality and an amazing smile that would light up the world.

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Governor of Arkansas has issued directives that face coverings must be worn and social distancing be observed; indoor events held at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth are limited to 50 in attendance due to the directive until further notice.

I was a table mate of Sibyl’s at The
Manor. I live in one of the cottages. She was a joy & sheer
delight. Even though this lock down took place in March, I feel honored that I got to meet her!

Sybil was one of a kind and will be remembered as one of my favorites on this Earth. She was edifying and so nice to be around. Funny, smart, and independent...yet willing to start anew at the nursing home at the end of life....always positive. What a blessing to have known her these last few years. I took this pic of her in August. She was not able to attend my wedding so I took my dress and crown and veil to her house. We had such a great time playing "bride"! She is wearing the crown here, and I am sure she is wearing one in Heaven now.

Words cannot express how saddened I am to know that I will not see her smiling face on Sunday morning however, I know that she is proudly walking the streets of gold with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I love you Mamaw

I knew Sybil through our church, Immanuel Baptist. She was such a joy to know because of her cheerful disposition & sweet nature.
I know that her absence will leave a void in your lives but know she would not want you to grieve for her because she is rejoicing in Heaven & will be one of the first there waiting to greet you .
