Alan Czeizler, age 72, passed away peacefully on January 27th, 2021 at his home in Livingston, New Jersey, surrounded by his family. His battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with a strong fight and an unparalleled sense of humor.
Alan was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1948 to Julius and Tillie Czeizler. He was the youngest of three children and enjoyed a close relationship with older sisters Marion and Susan. He attended Yeshiva of Flatbush, Midwood High School, PACE University and the NY Institute of Technology. He helped finance his education by working as a waiter in the Catskill Mountains over the summer of 1970 where he was introduced to his wife, Gayle (Herwitz) Czeizler. They married on May 20th, 1972 and bought their first home in Woodbury, Long Island in 1978 before welcoming their first born child, Jordan, in August of ’79. Nine years later, they moved to Livingston, New Jersey with the arrival of their daughter, Lauren, and have resided in the same home since.
Alan built a long and successful career in the consumer electronics industry where he reached outstanding sales achievements with industry leaders including JVC, Canon, and Sharp. He was very devoted to the Jewish people, and expressed his unceasing commitment to the UJA-Federation by enthusiastically serving as Co-Chairmen of the Consumer Electronics Division throughout the 80’s and 90’s. Following the death of his mother in 2002, Alan felt supported and embraced by the community at the Suburban Torah Synagogue to which his sister Marion belonged, and became an active congregant. He developed and treasured many friendships that were formulated over services, kiddushim, and walks to and from synagogue with neighbors until his disability restricted his regular attendance.
Alan was also involved in local community initiatives – he and Gayle generously supported philanthropies such as The Friendship Circle and the ECLC School, of which Gayle serves on the board.
Throughout retirement, he enjoyed membership at Greenbrook Country club, where he worked on his golf game in the company of great friends. He also honed his impeccable fashion sense through “the thrill of the hunt” for discounted designer items, and almost never repeated an outfit.
He was a generous, charitable and hardworking man who enjoyed life and always placed his loved ones first. His best days were spent sharing meals with his family, enthusiastically and proudly supporting his children in their athletic, academic and professional endeavors, and exploring the world through travel with his wife and children. Some of his fondest memories were from trips to Italy and Cabo San Lucas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gayle; his devoted children Jordan (Marcy) Czeizler and Lauren (Alex) Rubinov; his sisters Susan Gottfurcht and Marion (Gilbert) Epstein; his mother-in-law Myra Herwitz Kahn; his brother-in-law Gary (Jennifer) Herwitz; and his treasured grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy, Evan and Emma Czeizler. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love and humor, and leaves many joyful, lasting memories in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 28th at 1pm at Cedar Park – Beth-El cemetery in Paramus, NJ. Friends and relatives may attend wearing masks and keeping socially distant or virtually through a live stream (https://livestream.com/accounts/7623483/events/9504769).
The family will be sitting shiva at the Czeizler home and will hold virtual visitation via zoom on Sunday, January 31st at 1pm.
