Born to Charles and Anna (née Baker) Slaff in Passaic, NJ he graduated from Passaic High School in 1954 and attended The New York School of Photography.
He and his family moved to Pompton Lakes, NJ in 1964. A dedicated and involved father, he was a Cub Scout leader, Little League coach, co-founder of the Pompton Lakes/Riverdale youth soccer league, and President of the Pompton Lakes High School Band Boosters.
An EMT for 15 years and eventual President of the Pompton Lakes/Riverdale First Aid Squad, he was passionate about his community and using his medical knowledge to save lives and make a difference.
Continuing his passion for his community, when he and his beloved wife moved to Barnegat, NJ in 2003 he was the first elected board member of the over 55 community Heritage Point. He also found fulfillment as a mediator in Ocean County small claims court and working with the Juvenile Conference Committee to intervene and redirect troubled youth.
As a lifelong music lover, he was a member of a barbershop quartet earlier in his life, and in his golden years was a baritone in the Island Singers.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Brenda (née Lebkes) Slaff, his daughter Suzanne Rubino and her husband Ralph of Pompton Lakes, son Gregg and wife Nancy of Pequannock, grandchildren Lindsay Terzian and husband Alex of Livingston, Allison Infield of Caldwell, Gary and Andrew Slaff of Pequannock, the light of his life, his great granddaughter Elisa Rose Terzian, and his niece Faith Prasky of Chesapeake, VA.
