Beloved father, grandfather, and uncle, Dr. Burton Steinberg, 96, of Livingston NJ, died Tuesday, March 26th peacefully at his home. Born on June 15, 1927 in Newark NJ, Burt served in WWII, before completing his education, earning an undergraduate degree with honors from Rutgers in 1949; a DDS in Dentistry (Omicron Kappa Upsilon honors) from Northwestern University in 1953 and became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry in 1982. He was a family dentist for decades with practices in Essex and Union counties.
An art prodigy from a young age, Burt was also an accomplished, prolific and award-winning painter.
He is survived by daughters, Joan Spiegel and husband, Danny; Gail Belsik and wife Nicole Richardson; Karen Hollander; daughter-in-law Rani Steinberg; and his grandchildren, Evan Spiegel, Mark Steinberg, Matt Steinberg, Tate Hollander, and Zev Hollander. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Nathan Steinberg; his beloved wife, Teri Steinberg, his sister, Eleanor Levine, by sons, Robert Steinberg and Jeffrey Belsik, and his son-in-law, Ben Hollander.
Services will be held at 2:30 on Thursday, March 28th at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, located at 68 Old Short Hills Road in Livingston. The family will sit Shiva following services from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m on Thursday and again on Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Enclave, Building 1 Club Room, located at 345 South Orange Ave., Livingston. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in memory of Burt be made to Barnabas Health Home Care and Hospice, 80 Main Street West Orange NJ 07052.
