OBITUARY

Charles A. Nye

October 9, 1935April 6, 2021

Charles A. Nye, devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at the age of 85.

He was born in Orange, NJ to the late Doddis (nee Pruden) and Matthew Leo Nye. He lived in Montville NJ for 26 years with his adored wife Anne. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Charles enjoyed his career as a butcher throughout his life and worked in various supermarkets, eventually retiring from Stop & Shop in Parsippany. He was always the person asked to carve the roast at holidays and rarely went to someone’s house for dinner without taking his own knives, which became one of his favorite traditons. In addition to that, he enjoyed being an entrepreneur, and was the owner of Exciting Times Arcade in Harrison. In his retirement he enjoyed being a crossing guard for Montville Township and looked forward to standing his post and greeting the children every day.

Charles loved wood working and refinished many beautiful pieces of furniture over the years. He was also a wood crafter, and made many wooden home decorations, which he enjoyed selling at craft shows. He loved spending time in his home workshop.

He also loved to bowl and was on many bowling leagues over the years. Even in his early 80’s he could beat much younger men on the bowling alley! His love for bowling was second only to his love for family and food, and he loved to enjoy a good meal at a restaurant or around a table with family and friends. He was usually the first one to “dig in” and the last one to finish! Charles also enjoyed skiing, camping, and traveling for many years. He and Anne enjoyed many beautiful vacations, fun cruises, and rising their favorite getaways in Lancaster PA.

Charles and Anne were faithful members of The Chapel Christian Church in Lincoln Park, NJ for 20 years.

Charles was the beloved husband of Anne (nee Gonnello) for 36 years; loving father of Debra Cristelli and her husband, Michael, Bill Nye and his wife, Anna, and the late Lori Donelan; stepfather of Raymond DiBernardo and Donna Dickson and her husband, Chris; dear brother of Edward Nye and his wife, Mary; cherished grandfather of Michele, Ryan, Justin, Daniel, Courtney, Matthew, Joseph, Casey and Grace; and great grandfather of Cody, Reilly, Connor, Eleanor, Cora, and Troy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the National MS Society at hIps://www.nationalmssociety.org
