

Charles Segal Had interests in real estate and the arts, 'an unfailing font of warmth' Charles Segal passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016, of old age. Funeral service will be at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Rd., Livingston, N.J., at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 27. Burial will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, N.J.
Charles was born March 27, 1920, to Rose Segal (nee Liebowitz) and Samuel Segal, in Bayonne, N.J. He was the husband of Jean Disson Segal; father of Robert, Judith, and Emily Segal; father-in-law to Nancy Bissell Segal, James Kelly, and Andrew Ellis; grandfather of Zoe and Ben Stark, Sarah, Jacob, and Samuel Segal, Dana, Henry, and Rebecca Ellis, and great-grandfather of Jonah Stark.
After several years as a social worker at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Charles Segal joined his brothers, Joe, Hyman, Max, and Arnold in the Segal & Segal real estate company of South Orange, N.J. He was a property developer, builder, landscaper, sculptor, furniture and bowl maker, art collector, supporter of the arts and progressive causes. Charles Segal was an unfailing font of warmth, understanding, wisdom, and helpful giving to his family, many friends, and all who worked with him. He leaves a trove of beautifully made things, a legion of grateful family and friends.
