David is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; his four daughters, Robin (Roger) Feldman, Karen (Joe) Kleiman, Jennifer Sweetwood, and Julie Sweetwood; his grandchildren Alexandra, Will and Elizabeth Feldman, Carly and Ben Kleiman, John and Teddy Sweetwood; his nephews Steven, Larry and Howard Sweetwood; and innumerable friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Rose, and his brother Ira Sweetwood.
David was born in Passaic, NJ on February 20, 1939. He was raised in a close knit home in Clifton, NJ with his parents and older brother Ira. David graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1960 and received his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1963. David remained committed to both institutions and returned frequently to celebrate reunions with his classmates.
In 1977, David married the love of his life, Dorothy, welcoming her three daughters as his own. Together they had Julie, and David was happily surrounded by five women. A true family man, David was happiest being with his 7 grandchildren and loved taking the entire gang on many memorable family vacations.
David spent his career practicing law and was a founding member of his law firm. He was an active real estate investor and developer, often partnering with his father and closest friends. As an attorney and businessman, David will be remembered for his keen mind, commitment to excellence and the fact that his word was his bond.
David was an avid traveler and maintained friendships around the world. Though first and foremost a son of New Jersey, David and his beloved Dottie split their time between Essex Fells, NJ and Singer Island, FL. Those of us who loved him most imagine David seated behind the wheel of his favorite vintage white Cadillac convertible driving toward the loving arms of Jack, Rose and Ira. Our David will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
