Diana M. Aponte passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 11, 2019, after a brief illness, surrounded by family and loved ones at St Michael's Hospital in Newark.

Diana was a woman of great faith who demonstrated unconditional love for all of her family and friends. She was a kind and caring soul who was generous to all. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Her beautiful smile, which she shared often, will be missed by all who knew her.

Diana was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico to Santiago and Luz Maria (Betancourt) Rodriguez. The family, with her brother Hector, moved to New Jersey and settled with many family members on Pennsylvania Ave, in Newark. She attended Miller Street School and later graduated from West Side High School in 1963.

While attending Saint Bridget's Church in Newark, she was introduced to Jenaro Ramos, whom she married on her 21st birthday. They settled in Irvington, NJ and welcomed their only child, Jerry. Diana lost Jenaro to illness after 24 years of marriage.

Diana worked in the medical field. She started at Saint James Hospital, in their X-Ray section. She then became a medical insurance specialist for the Irvington OB GYN Group, where she worked for 27 years and made lifelong friends. She then worked for Dr. James Rommer for 12 years until she retired at the age of 70.

In 1999 she married Leónides Aponte. They attended Saint Patrick's Pro Cathedral in Newark, where Leo later became a Deacon. They were both extremely devoted to the Parish. Diana became a Eucharistic Minister and Lector and organized and participated in many church functions. Diana was loved by all in the church community.

Predeceased by her parents, Santiago and Luz Maria (Betancourt) Rodriguez and her husband Jenaro Ramos.

She was survived by her husband, Leonides Aponte, her son, Jerry Ramos and her brother Hector Rodriguez. She was also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, step children, grandchildren, in-laws, and friends whom she loved dearly.

Mom, How fortunate our family's have been to have had each other over 25 years. You have been a constant light in my life along with Bela and Norma. The 3 most incredible and influential women in my life. The love and hugs you shared with me throught good and bad times. All the laughs and beautiful smiles without words, let us know how much we loved each other. Not a day will go by you won't be in my heart or thoughts. Thank you for leaving apart of who your are with me. You will live on through all you have touched so deeply. Diana always had a big smile whenever we saw her at a family event. You could see how in love Leo and her were and they enjoyed being photographed together. I recall her RSVPing for my dad's 90th birthday party saying "God willing, her and her husband would be at the party." And Diana did make it to my dad's surprise party. It was such a shock to hear the news. However, Diana will remain forever in our hearts for the kindness and love she gave towards our family. May Diana rest in peace and our deepest condolences to Leo and Diana's family and friends. All our love, Kane Family - Tom, Maria, Brandon and Tyler
