-Edward R. Appel, 82, of South Orange, N.J., passed away at home on Friday evening, July 27, 2012, after battling a long illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Bernheim-Apter- Kreitzman Funeral Chapel, Livingston, N.J. Interment will follow at Oheb Sholom Cemetary, Hillside, N.J. Born in Boston, Mass., Edward attended Boston Latin School. He received a B.A. from Boston University and an MBA from Columbia University, and was a former senior lieutenant in the Navy. For 27 years he and his wife, Sheila, owned and operated Mail Diary Panel, a marketing research company in Cranford, N.J. As a longtime member of Oheb Shalom Congregation, Edward chaired an award-winning adult education committee; served on the board of trustees, and was president of the Hebrew Free Loan. A music lover, he was a founding member of the Society of Musical Arts (SOMA). Edward is survived by his devoted family: wife, Sheila; daughters, Nancy Rosenfield and husband, David, of Short Hills, N.J., and Susan Solomon and husband, David, of Randolph, N.J.; sister, Hilda Volkin of Albuquerque, N.M., and grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel Rosenfield, and Jared Solomon.
