
Ellen Sue Segal, after a very long and courageous battle, succumbed early Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012, to the ravages of the treatments she received for Hodgkin's Disease almost 40 years ago. A memorial service will be held this Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the Berhneim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, 68 Old Short Hills Road, Livingston, N.J., followed by a reception at Peter Segal's home in New Vernon, N.J. Ellen was 66 years old and lived in New Vernon, N.J., with Peter, her loving husband of 46 years. She grew up in Englewood, N.J., and, after she was married, lived in South Orange, N.J., for 20 years. She also spent time at their homes in Florida and New Hampshire. In addition, she is survived by her adoring children, Oliver and Kelly Segal, and Leslie and Jordan Klein, as well as the loves of her life, her grandchildren, James, Molly and Morgan Klein and William and Max Segal. Ellen graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., in 1967 with a B.S. in government and public administration and also received a master's in museum education from the Bank Street School in New York City in the mid- 1980s. Ellen taught math and social studies in the Morris Township and Summit public school systems in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Additionally, she worked as a teacher's aide at the Far Brook School in Short Hills, N.J., in the 1980s. Later in the 1980s and 1990s, she worked for Lee Skolnick Architecture and Design Partnership, an architectural firm in New York City, where she specialized in museum education, designing and implementing many exhibits as well as preparing docent manuals.
