at the Waterview Nursing Home in Cedar Grove on Monday, April 1, 2019. She was 91 years
old.
Born and raised in Newark, Ernesta moved to Bloomfield 51 years ago.
She attended Barringer High School and graduated from Kean University earning both a
Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education.
She was a fixture behind North Junior High School selling concessions for the Babe Ruth
League.
Ernesta was employed as a teacher for the Newark Board of Education for 35 years retiring
more than 30 years ago.At which time, she became a snowbird in Florida. She also enjoyed going to Cape May.
She was an avid Jeopardy and Wheel watcher. She loved her search a word puzzles and her
macaroni and merlot on Sundays. On a warm sunny day, you could bet that Ernesta was
cruising around in her much adored baby blue convertible with the top down. She was always
up for anything, whether it be a Frankie Vallie concert, a trip to the beach or taking in a movie
with her sister in law Doris. She enjoyed everything to the fullest.
She was predeceased by her husband Victor Porcelli; her parents Ernesto and Leonilda
DeRogatis; siblings Alex DeRogatis, Genevieve Petruccione, Tullia Ferrucci, Rosina Elefante,
Letizia Frusciano, and Alba Quaresimo.
She is survived by her sons Victor Porcelli and his wife Jessica and Christopher Porcelli and
Laura, grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, Mariel, Gianna, and Mia, a niece Eve Zell and
godson Michael Petruccione.
She was the definition of a great mother, great grandmother and friend. She will be forever
missed.
Mom, I will miss you until my heart stops beating. Until we meet again I wanted to say
goodbye the way we always used to...Ciao
