She was born and raised in Maplewood, NJ, the daughter of Harriett and Joseph Spiess. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Dykman, and her sister, Helen Krasne.
Evalyn loved horses from childhood on, and she loved to play cards (specifically Canasta) nearly as much. She and Arthur raised three children and lived long enough to see the family they started grow into three generations. She spent time with them whenever possible. She was an avid reader, a lover of history, and could finish a Sunday Times crossword faster than any of her children or grandchildren* (jury is still out on if the great grandchildren will usurp her crossword prowess). She loved keeping everyone on their toes with her sharp wit and sharper opinions.
Evalyn is survived by her children, Avery; Douglas and his wife, Cori; and Robert and his wife, Ruth; her grandchildren, Lindsay Straff and her husband, Jordan; Jessica Galin and her husband, Jeff Holt; Tylar Tannenbaum and her husband, Adam; Jordan; Monique; Andrew; and her great-grandchildren, Ava & Owen Straff, and Jacob Tannenbaum.
*This fact is under review as it has been challenged by a few grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Evalyn's memory to either Tovah.org or Parkinson.org
Shiva will be held at 4410 Pointe Gate Dr., Livingston, NJ 07039 1 PM to 4 PM Friday, August 21st and Saturday August 22nd 1 PM to 4 PM
