
Evi Meinhardt (Nee Singer), loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and active community member, passed away on March 27th, 2021, after her long and courageous battle with Leiomyosarcoma. Evi was born in Vienna, Austria on June 14th, 1936. When Evi was two years old, along with her parents and lifelong best family friends, she moved to Santiago, Chile to escape the war. When Evi was 26 years old, she moved to the United States by herself, to live with her uncle in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Three weeks later, she went on a blind date, where she met her future husband, Albert Meinhardt. They were married three months later.
Evi and Al continued with Al’s father’s business, B. Meinhardt, in Newark, New Jersey. Evi and Al’s son, Edward, was born in 1964, in Newark, New Jersey. They moved to Short Hills, New Jersey where they lived for most of their life. After Al died in 1999, Evi moved to Livingston to be closer to her son, Ed, daughter in law, Elena, and two grandchildren, Jillian and Garrett. Evi was close with her grandchildren and always attended sporting events, music recitals and school functions.
Evi was actively involved in the community and Temple B’nai Abraham, where she watched her son and grandchildren have their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Evi was Sisterhood President and an honorary lifetime Board of Trustees member. Evi was a member of the Curt C. & Else Silberman Foundation in Washington, DC and a lifetime member of The Hadassah Foundation. Evi was an avid traveler, and had the opportunity to share Santiago with her family. Evi was kind, strong, and generous. Evi is survived by her son, Edward, daughter-in-law, Elena and grandchildren, Jillian and Garrett.
