Genevieve "Jean" Giordano

Genevieve (Jean) Giordano, 91 yrs. old, passed away on August 31st, 2023 in her home filled with loving family in Bloomfield, NJ. She was born in Lyndhurst, NJ to the late Thomas Scoton and Frances Kalinowski. Jean, as she preferred to be called, was one of five children and the last surviving member of her immediate family. As a young woman, she was a big fan of Shirley Temple and Van Johnson. She graduated from Barringer High School in Newark and married John (Jack) Giordano in 1958. She was the mother of five children: John (Kathy), Peter (Ruth), David (Joanne), Paul, and Mary and the beloved grandmother of LeeAnn, Annette and Lyndsey. Jean was a dedicated employee at Clara Maass Hospital for 29 years and continued to volunteer for an additional 10 years after retirement. After fully retiring, Jean joined the Essex County Senior (Monday) Club where she held the position of secretary and often brought her grandchildren to keep the members company.

Jean loved the autumn season and collecting leaves and acorns with her family members. She also had a great fondness for poetry, both reading and reciting, and she retained her memory of these poems well into her older years. She enjoyed old movies, crafts, puzzles, game shows, and classics such as Johnny Mathis. Jean was a strong matriarch for her entire family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation for Genevieve will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 63 Franklin Street, Belleville, NJ, with interment to immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
