He is survived by his wife, Raisa Grinshpun; his children Sergey and Nina; his grandchildren Aiden, Joseph, Hudson, Aliviana and Shayla; and his children-in-law Elina and Clark. They all miss him dearly.
Gennady was a caring husband, father and grandfather. He was cheerful and outgoing and quick to joke. His charming personality and vibrant storytelling won him many friends, and the devotion of his family. He was a connector, and tried to make people happy and he often did.
He loved hockey and to watch games just inches from the television, but his favorite teams were the ones starring his grandsons Aiden, Joseph and Hudson. He enjoyed singing and dancing, and was especially proud of his granddaughters Aliviana and Shayla for following their own dancing passions.
He was born Nov. 15, 1954 in Ukraine and brought his family to America in 1989. He established a new home and life for his family in New Jersey, his most enduring accomplishment. He continued to push his own boundaries in recent years, losing 50 pounds, walking further than he ever had, and even getting rid of the glasses he had worn since he was just two — though he thought he still looked better with them on. He remained fashionable in his later years, receiving Stitch Fix boxes, and wearing his skinny jeans to his oncology visits.
Gennady couldn't help but brighten up each room he was in, amusing doctors, friends, and his grandchildren's friends with his stories. He loved to fish, post on Facebook, and a delicious meal. His voice will continue to echo in the hearts of everyone he touched.
He was preceded by his parents, Joseph and Sarah Grinshpun, and favorite uncle Stasik Khantsis.
