George Hodes passed away early on Nov. 24, 2012. Funeral services will be at the King Solomon Cemetery in Clifton, N.J., on Monday at a time to be determined. Please visit www.BernheimApterKreitzman.com for the exact time. Born in Newark, N.J. on Nov. 9, 1908, to Fanny and Hyman Hodes, Mr. Hodes was the fourth of eight children. He lived most of his life in Springfield and Union, N.J., and most recently, he lived at the Jewish Home Assisted Living in River Vale, N.J. Mr. Hodes was a certified public accountant and a graduate of New York University School of Commerce. He was proud to have been honored as the oldest living alumnus of New York University. Mr. Hodes had his own practice in Essex and Union County for over 60 years. In addition to his professional service, he was active in his synagogue, Congregation Beth Shalom in Union, and with the Union chapter of B'nai B'rith. He was also an avid ice skater and swimmer. Mr. Hodes was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly Hodes (nee Tremper); his two sisters, Edith Rose and Viola Meskin; his children, Larry Hodes and his wife, Leslie, Robin Jacobs and her husband, Roger, and David Hodes and his wife Jolie; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
