

Born in the Bronx, NY Dr. Melnick graduated from Cornell University and SUNY Downstate Center Medical School, Brooklyn, NY class of 1954. He interned at Meadowbrook Hospital, Hempstead, NY 1954-1955, and was a Fellow in Radiology and Medical Fellow in Cardiovascular Radiology at University of Minnesota Hospital 1957-1961 and Yale-New Haven Hospital Instructor of Radiology 1963-1966.
He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical from 1955 to 1957. He became the Director of Radiology at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark and founder of School of Radiologic Technology from 1966 to 1982. He was the Chair of Radiology Department at University of Medicine and Dentistry, Newark from 1982 to 1986, the Chair of Radiology, Morristown Memorial Hospital from 1986 to 1990, and was appointed Fellow in American College of Radiology in1977.
Dr. Melnick served for many years as a volunteer with The American Cancer Society Eastern Division, and was instrumental in the Campaign on the Hill anti-smoking lobbying efforts. For many years he vacationed at Chautauqua in western New York State, enjoying the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, lecture series, ballet, and theater companies. He was an avid New York Red Bulls soccer fan, and lifelong collector of model trains.
Dr. Melnick is survived by his wife Noreen Moore-Melnick, his children Daniel Melnick, David Melnick and Hillary Kramer, Deborah Melnick and Owen Nochimson, Jeffrey Melnick and Rachel Rubin, his grandchildren Tasha and Jaden Kramer-Melnick and Jessie and Jacob Rubin, his nephew Marc and Debra Melnick, his brother-in-law Dennis Moore, and his beloved friend, Sylvia Kramer.
