Gil was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Irving and Freda Selvin. He graduated from Arkansas State University, served in the U.S. Army, and then attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He was proud of the practice he built in Brooklyn and loved his patients.
He married Judith Levine in 1964 and had 48 wonderful years together until she passed in 2012. They raised two sons, Paul and Brian, on Long Island. There golden years were spent in Somerset NJ. In both places, Gil and Judi developed a wide circle of friends and had many terrific memories.
Gil loved his family most. He also enjoyed card games, especially Texas Hold em in his later years, doing cross word puzzles (he did the NYT in ink daily), Jeopardy, dining with friends and family and watching Michigan sports with his sons. Gil will be remembered as being one of the nicest men you will ever meet, with a ready smile and warm hello, and for the love of his family.
Gil is survived by his children, Paul (Rachel) and Brian (Karen), his grandchildren Jordan, Jason, Emma, and Alex, his brother Martin, his companion later in life Leona, and many in laws, cousins and nieces and nephews.
